You have my word.
I have to stop. It's too damn depressing.
I'm no Mathlete, but even I know that 10 fans out of 458 "friends" isn't a very good batting average.
Thanks to the ten of you who have signed up. Even though you don't ever post anything on the page, it means a lot to me to know that you took the 1.3 seconds it takes to click Become a Fan.
D'you know what really sucks about it? Some of the people who aren't on board as of yet. You know, like my mother. Or my brother. Or any member of my family for that matter. Not even one member of my extended family has joined.
My old university roommate Amy, she's a fan of Kevin Smith, but not me.
My mate Tony from work - Danny Williams supporter. Spencer Kyte supporter, not so much. Though his wife is...

Yes. I really am this much of an insecure little girl.
Even though I know over 1000 people have stopped by this blog in a little over three months, I still have this weird need to know that people actually like what I do.
Intrinsic satisfaction be damned... I want my Sally Field moment where I can shout "You like me! You really like me!" and know that more than ten people are saying yes.

I'll get working on the rest of the Blockbuster crew...Erin and I can be role models!
Hey Spence, just to let you know, I am now a fan of yours!!!
Spence --
This post was an insult to insecure little girls everywhere.
I'm really tempted to unbecome a facebook fan, if such a thing is possible and doesn't require much effort.
How are you gonna be a real-live grown-up writer if you need facebook to make you feel like a secure little girl?
Ash - thanks for being a role model.
Kim - it's about goddamn time!
Chalk - why would you say such hurtful things?
Dear Mr. Kyte,
I have taken the time to write this letter as a possible explaination as to why I have not participated in the "I Love Spencer" fan club. I like your blog and read it daily but I am boycotting facebook and therefore cannot participate in at this time.
If for some reason a settlement between my opinion and the necessities of facebook is found I will be adding myself to your list.
Until that settlement has been achieved here is to hoping that you can get at least 10% of your friends to like you in 2008.
Remember Spencer, Baby Steps. Facebook stardom does not happen overnight.
Good Luck and Best Wishes,
Mr. Newt
I think the fact that you have to coerce people repeatedly to become fans tells you all you need to know.
Real artists don't seek vindication of their work through facebook groups.
Newt - we're good... I'm sure you have your reasons for boycotting CrackBook...
Anonymous - I think your continued insistence on commenting incognito on the post of a writer you say isn't a real artist is funny to me. The fact that you think I'm serious about all this Fan Club situation is even more amusing. It was a slow news day, I needed some material.
Kim, you shouldn't be broadcasting that you're only now becoming a fan...You won't be rewarded for being this late to join a trend!
Spence --
Now that I know it was just a bit, I take back my words. They were not meant to be hurtful anyways, just to express frustration/disappointment.
Only a true artist would be as good at making himself look like such a complete ass as you are.
Keep up the good art.
Chalk -
Can't totally front, there is some honesty in my sad need for acceptance and recognition. Again, it comes from being the younger to a hyper-talented older... then being successful (marginally) and not gettin' any love regardless. Trust me, I have issues.
But on the whole, it's a fun bit. Playing up pathetic is amusing to me. Seeing people take it totally seriously shows me I can do it well, which is nice to know.
Side note - love that we have the third Steiner Brother on B&C now...
